Make Change Challenge

See the price and the money paid, then give back the exact change with coins and bills. A kids' money game with a 60-second challenge and a practice mode.

Guide

Key points

  • A game where kids give back the exact change with coins and bills.
  • The fewest coins earns a bonus point, and levels get harder as you go.
  • Practice mode has no timer and a hint button.

How to play

  1. Look at the price and the money paid — say, a 65¢ lollipop paid with $1.
  2. Work out the change: $1.00 − $0.65 = 35¢.
  3. Tap coins to put 35¢ in the tray. Exactly right and it counts!

Gave too much? Tap a coin in the tray to take it back. Use the fewest coins — here a quarter and a dime — for a bonus point.

What kids learn

  • Subtraction to find the change
  • Coin and bill values (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollars)
  • Starting with the biggest coin that fits means fewer coins

For parents

Start in practice mode: no timer, and a hint button that shows the change. Then try the 60-second challenge for a best score. The more answers in a row, the bigger the payment and the smaller the steps.

FAQ

What age is it for?

Early elementary school, once kids can subtract. Younger children can start in practice mode with the hint and simply count coins.

Where is the best score saved?

Only in this browser. The game asks for no name or personal data and sends nothing to a server.

How do I find the fewest coins?

Start with the biggest coin that fits, then the next. 35¢ is a quarter and a dime: 2 coins.
