Guide
Key points
- Enter the price, what you've saved and how much you'll save to see how many weeks or months it takes.
- Pick a date to see how much to save each time.
- Splitting your allowance into spend, save and share jars helps you reach goals.
How to use it
- Write what you want, its price and what you’ve saved so far.
- Choose how much to save every week or month — you’ll see when you can buy it.
- Under “Plan for a date”, pick a day like a birthday and see how much to save each time.
Try three jars
- 🍪 Spend — snacks and school supplies for this week
- 🐷 Save — for big things you want, like a bike
- 💝 Share — gifts for friends or giving to others
Splitting your allowance, for example 50% spend, 40% save, 10% share, lets you enjoy money now and still reach your goal.
Needs and wants
Needs are things you can’t do without (a new notebook when yours is full). Wants are nice to have (a new toy). Before buying a want, wait a day or two — if you still want it, make it your goal.
For parents
Let your child choose the goal and check progress together. When they reach it, talk about how it felt to wait for it. The calculator assumes the same amount is saved every time.
